We manufacture roof trusses & metal web floor joists in-house bringing costs down for our customers using state-of-the art machinery. Using our (specialist/engineering) software allows for almost any roof or floor design. We can easily plan & design any shape possible giving you peace of mind that everything fits into place perfectly.
Our expert design team is always on hand to help with your latest projects. Our experience with CAD design software & technical drawings is what makes us stand out from our competitors. The easi-joist offers clear benefits over sawn timber and other engineered floor joist systems. Not only does it out perform sawn timber in span and dimensional stability.
For economy, pitches are standardised to between 15 & 40 degrees - we can supply to your spec. We treat with new waterborne solutions, or with non-corrosive, spirit-based organic solvents. Standard trusses can be designed up to 11 metres in 35mm timber, and 15 metres in 47mm timber. Wider spans are supplied as multiple trusses fixed together. We use and recommend Wolf 101 nailplates manufactured from structural grade galvanised mild steel to BS EN 14545.

Had to purchase over 60 joists for a comunity build project, creating rooms with spans of 10 metres. John B Smith's joists were light weight (could be moved by 2 people) and strong. Also the company was very reasonably priced, delivered when they said they would and gave excellent support and advice in the installation and fitting of their joists. Would definitely use them again.

Fantastic service - We are re-building a bungalow into a large house and employed an architect and a structural engineer who both made mistakes with the design of the roof. Our contractor went to Andrew Stainsby at JB Smith who re-designed it and fixed it, despite it being a highly complex roof which he had never seen. The service is first class and I cannot recommend them enough.

I have recently undertaken an extension to my club in Redcar, and due to the complexities of building a traditional roof system, ie a main ridge beam from 9" x 3" timber over 40ft long, and a tapered building area, I decided to look into having trusses tailor made. I contacted JB Smith, who gave me a very competitive quote, and although the 19 trusses all had differing angles at the rear to combat the taper, I had them all delivered to site 8 days later, and all installed the day after.
I calculate that I have saved over two weeks labour and timber savings too in using Smiths for my trusses. The job is on the Citizens Club in Redcar should anybody want to see it and I would wholeheartedly recommend JB Smith for their pricing, efficiency and speed in getting the trusses to site.
